2007-2008 Pack Year in Review

Cub Scout Pack 721 kicked off a new year of scouting at Moraine and OLV with 80 scouts! The pack is led by Cubmaster Rob Dunne, Pack Committee Chair Paul Maier, Membership Chair Becky Marks, Advancement Chair Kristina Dunne, Event Chair Joe Walker and a leader and co-leader for each den. Last fall the scouts held their annual family hayride and cookout at Maybury State Park planned by the Brennan family. Thanks to all those Moraine families who supported scouting through the annual popcorn fundraiser, which was chaired by Kamilla Schulte.

Next, the pack gathered canned goods to help fight hunger in southeast Michigan while teaching the scouts the value of "doing a good turn daily" and participating in the Detroit Area Council's Scouting for Food campaign. Thanks to the Mertz family for organizing the campaign for the Pack and to all those who placed bags of food on their front porches for the scouts to collect. Scouts and their families also attended a night at a Plymouth Whalers game in November planned by the Gray family with over 100 attendees representing Pack 721.

This past January the scouts and their parents experienced an Animals After Dark overnight at the Detroit Zoo. On what was an extremely cold night, the scouts hiked throughout the zoo and saw the animals in their winter habitat. Thanks to the Gray family for planning the zoo "freeze". Next the scouts and their families experienced a professional Detroit Ignition soccer game at Compuware Arena on scout night which was planned by the Walkers. The action-packed indoor game was a new experience for many fans.

The annual Blue & Gold Banquet had the scout dens competing against their den leaders in "Are You Smarter Than A Cub Scout?" Five fifth grade scouts received their Arrow of Light badges in a special ceremony recognizing their achievements. More than 140 attended the event at the Northville Community Senior Center planned by the Boerema family and Den 15 parents.

The second grade scouts also recently took a trip to Camp Copneconic in Fenton. The boys tobogganed, made bottle rockets, dropped eggs from varying heights, sang camp songs, prepared s’mores, and experienced camping in the middle of winter! Thanks to the Greenlees for planning. March 15th was an exciting day for all the scouts at the annual Pinewood Derby. The scouts built their own cars to race and compete for prizes in speed and design in the new OLV school cafeteria. Thanks to Richard Boerema for coordinating derby day and all the parent volunteers who assisted. Monthly pack meetings and regular den meetings where the scouts earn their badges rounded out the fall schedule.
